Baruch College, Drexel University and the University of Texas lead the way... https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/baruch-college-55191373.htm https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/baruch-college-55191373.htm 05/07/2013 2:50:51 PM Baruch College, Drexel University and the University of Texas lead the way in the inaugural Institutional Investor All-America Student Analyst Competition FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK (April 30, 2013)- Today, Institutional Investor magazine group released online the results of its first-ever All-America Student Analyst Competition, a contest that allowed undergraduate and graduate students in finance to test their mettle against like-minded participants to develop the best simulated stock portfolios. The All-America Student Analyst Competition, which ran from September 2012 through January 2013, is the result of a collaboration between Institutional Investor and Mark My Media, a Stamford, Connecticut-based firm that has built a sophisticated software platform to track portfolios, and involved nearly 700 students from 34 U.S. colleges and universities. Performance was graded quantitatively on multiple factors to determine the overall winners, as well as those in seven different industry sectors. More than 20 schools have students who finished in the top 100, led by Baruch College/City University of New York, with 13. Drexel University in Philadelphia is second, with 11 competitors in the top 100, followed by the University of Texas at Austin (nine), Los Angeles's Loyola Marymount University (eight) and Manhattan-based Fordham University's (seven). The University of San Diego has the overall first place student, Daniel McAllister, a 28-year old MBA candidate. The University of Virginia has the second place finisher, Matthew Olfat, a 19-year-old systems engineering and financial math double major. Leading traders in the competition included both graduate and undergraduate students, with seven of the top ten finishers still in pursuit of undergraduate degrees. Schools whose students performed particularly well included a number of MBA programs from well-known universities such as UC Berkeley's Haas School, Cornell University's Johnson School and Fordham's Graduate School of Business. Undergraduate programs that stood out included Baruch's Zicklin School, Drexel and the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. Schools such as Florida International University and Loyola Marymount were well represented by students from both undergraduate and graduate programs. "The results of the All-America Student Analyst Competition speak to the quality of finance being taught across the U.S. at both the undergraduate and graduate levels," says Institutional Investor Editor Michael Peltz. The rankings were compiled across seven industry sectors and one general category, utilizing a proprietary six-factor algorithm developed by Mark My Media. The general category considered net benchmark outperformance, volatility, net exposure impact, gross exposure impact, long alpha and short alpha. The industry sectors mirrored the categories used in Institutional Investor's celebrated All-America Research Team ranking of the top Wall Street equity analysts: Basic Materials, Capital Goods/Industrials, Consumer, Energy, Financial Institutions, Healthcare and Technology, Media & Telecommunications. "Ultimately, the competition gives students the opportunity to be more equipped for a career in finance, and the results shed light on the leading performers and their uncanny ability to deliver alpha," says John Power, CEO of Mark My Media. The competition was powered by Mark My Media's ALPHASEAL investing platform - a cloud-based simulator that provides each trader with a personal portfolio, tracking the equity value, the net asset value, and profits and losses on a daily basis and imposing the same mark-to-market discipline that Wall Street and money management firms use to measure performance. By tracking their own performance, students at colleges large and small can provide potential employers with an objective measurement of their investment acumen. Sweeten Your Springtime Salads With Healthy Chilean Grapes https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/sweeten-your-sp-719918814.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/sweeten-your-sp-719918814.htm 04/15/2024 2:22:31 PM (NewsUSA) - Spring is here, so it’s time to bid farewell to winter soups and stews, and welcome fresh and festive salads.Take your salads to the next level this spring with the color, flavor, and crunch of fresh Chilean grapes. Domestic grapes are available in summer, but spring is the peak season for grapes from Chile, available in your local grocery store through April and into May. Grapes from Chile come in different colors and varieties; most supermarkets carry at least one red and one green. Check out the signage in your local grocery store and try several to find your favorites.Regardless of the variety, fresh grapes from Chile pack a powerful nutritional punch. Grapes are high in vitamin C, which helps the body fight infections, and they contain various phytonutrients that can help strengthen the immune system. Chilean grapes are a great source of potassium, as well as bone-building vitamin K, and a standard ¾-cup serving is just 90 calories. For a true taste of springtime, try a Grape, Quinoa, Pecan, and Watercress Salad, a recipe created by Frutas de Chile. Combine room-temperature quinoa, grape halves, toasted pecans, celery, and watercress in a large bowl and toss with a dressing made of minced shallot, salt, lemon juice, and olive oil. “The nuttiness of the quinoa, combined with the peppery flavor of watercress and the juiciness of grapes makes for a fantastic explosion of flavor, and this salad is also hearty enough to be served as a main course,” says Karen Brux, managing director for Frutas de Chile North America. For another fresh twist on a family-friendly main course salad, just add grapes, rotisserie chicken, and broccoli to your favorite cooked pasta, toss with an Italian vinaigrette, and savor the flavors of spring!Remember, when storing grapes at home, don’t wash them until you are ready to eat them or add them to a recipe, and then only wash what you will use then and there. Washing adds moisture that can cause the grapes to start to decompose faster than they normally would. That white film you see on grapes is called “bloom,” a waxy coating produced by the plant itself to protect the fruit, and it does not need to be washed off while the grapes are waiting to be used. For recipes and more information, visit fruitsfromchile.com/recipes. 04/15/2024 2:22:31 PM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

Young Author Translates 4,000-Year-Old Text to Reveal Fascinating Insights into Ancient Egypt https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/young-author-tr-719917562.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/young-author-tr-719917562.htm 04/15/2024 2:18:09 PM (NewsUSA) - Educators everywhere should scrap their current lesson plans and make the new book Be a Scribe! by 16-year-old Michael Hoffen and co-authors Dr. Christian Casey and Dr. Jen Thum part of every ancient history curriculum in every elementary school around the country. Whether for the classroom or frankly any room, Be a Scribe! might be the most unique, fascinating, entertaining, informative and educative book you’ll read this year. Young Hoffen, while in middle school, was introduced to the joys of translating ancient texts and never looked back. During the pandemic, he embarked on this ambitious project to bring ancient Egypt back to life. This book is an extraordinary translation of a papyrus dating from ancient Egypt’s Middle Kingdom era some 4,000 years ago. The text, known as The Instruction of Khety, tells the story of a teenager in ancient Egypt, Pepi, who wonders what career path he should choose -- an important matter still contemplated today by millions of teenagers 40 centuries later. The book already has been getting very high-profile coverage. National Gallery Victoria (Melbourne), in anticipation of their blockbuster exhibition Pharaoh!, has chosen the book to be represented in their bookstore. This exhibition will comprise of the largest loans the British Museum has ever undertaken. Also the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will carry the book in the main book store and in their Uris store next to their educational center. In the text, Pepi’s father, Khety, takes him on a long journey up the Nile to enroll him in a school far away from home, where Pepi will learn to read and write. Along the way, Khety explains 18 other terrible jobs Pepi could end up having to work at if he is not hired as a scribe. Khety’s marvelous descriptions of the many other jobs are blunt and humorous: the smith or sculptor with “fingers like crocodiles;” jewelers and carpenters with arms ruined; the barber exhausted “in order to fill his stomach, like a bee working to eat;” the trader, who is bitten by fleas and mosquitoes; the sandal maker, who has the taste of leather in his mouth all day; the gardener, who only rests when he dies; and the weaver, who gives bread to the doorkeeper “just to let him see daylight.” Sail up the Nile with an ancient Egyptian father and son and discover what daily life was like along the way. Experience the wonderful world of ancient Egypt with the help of countless artifacts and paintings in this beautifully oversized hardcover edition. Delight in 4,000-year-old humor and immerse yourself in the choices facing a teenage boy in Egypt. The book also provides some ancient words of wisdom from the father, everything from staying out of trouble, minding your manners, and following orders. It also provides a great introduction to hieroglyphs, which many associate with the pictures and paintings but actually represent the sounds of the Egyptian language. Hoffen is the youngest-ever recipient of the annual Emerson Prize, awarded by the Concord Review for outstanding promise in history. Be A Scribe! is Michael’s first book in a series intended for young readers. His co-authors on this project are two Egyptologists: Dr. Christian Casey, who now works as a researcher at Freie Universität Berlin, and Dr. Jen Thum, a curator at the Harvard Art Museums. Prepare yourselves to go “on a journey through the hopes, fears, struggles and skills of the ancient people who lived in the shadows of the pyramids.” Learn more at www.beascribe.com and purchase the book at https://bit.ly/3wlclaP. 04/15/2024 2:18:09 PM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

The Gap in Gum Care: Why Caring For Your Teeth's Foundation Matters https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/the-gap-in-gum--719893880.htm https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/the-gap-in-gum--719893880.htm 04/13/2024 2:33:14 AM (NAPSI)—Building a great smile starts with a strong foundation. While gums are often overlooked unless they are bleeding or causing mouth pain, they are the key to good oral health, overall physical health and the best grin you can imagine. “Adopting a healthy lifestyle includes maintaining optimal oral health. Practicing good oral care daily includes brushing teeth regularly twice a day, flossing, and using an antiseptic mouthwash,” said Nadia M. Fugate, DMD, Delta Dental of Washington’s senior dental consultant. “Regular professional dental cleanings on a schedule recommended by your dentist also play a crucial role in preventing gum disease.” More than half of all Americans suffer from gum disease, and many don’t even know they have it because there isn’t necessarily pain involved. Gum disease is linked to glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections and more. People with gum disease have a 49% higher chance of contracting heart disease than those who don’t have issues with their gums. Per the Centers for Disease Control, 47.2% of adults aged 30 or older have a form of gum disease. It increases with age, as 70.1% of adults 65 and over have periodontal disease. That’s why proper gum care and knowing the signs of gum disease are so important. Types of gum disease Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease which can generally be reversed with treatment and good oral hygiene. Periodontitis is an advanced form of gum disease which is not reversible and can only be managed to prevent it from getting worse. What happens if I get gum disease? Gum disease can lead to an inflammatory response caused by buildup of bacteria on the teeth and around the gums. The buildup, commonly known as plaque and tarter, causes your gums to become swollen, painful and bleed easily. Advanced gum disease can cause a loss of bone mass in and around the tooth socket and jawbone, which ultimately can lead to teeth becoming loose, falling out or needing to be extracted. Ways to prevent gum disease •Brush for two minutes, twice a day•Floss at least once a day•Schedule regular dental checkups and cleanings•Have a healthy diet, limiting sugary food and drinks•Avoid tobacco use•Replace your toothbrush every three to four months For more information on experiencing dental issues while traveling, visit Delta Dental of Washington’s blog at www.deltadentalwa.com. Editor’s note: Content is approved only for Washington state publications. On the Net:North American Precis Syndicate, Inc.(NAPSI) 04/13/2024 2:33:14 AM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

Keeping Cool and Energy-efficient Amid America’s “Extra Room Boom” This Summer https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/keeping-cool-an-719890797.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/keeping-cool-an-719890797.htm 04/12/2024 10:01:08 AM (NewsUSA) - Today’s homeowners are having an Extra Room Boom! This latest real estate reality is marked by the convergence of two mounting trends – growing home sizes and declining household members – that together mean more extra space and energy-efficiency challenges.Americans want their homes supersized. In fact, median home sizes have increased by a whopping 150% in just over 40 years with the median size of a new home jumping from 1,595 square feet in 1980 to 2,383 in 2022.Simultaneously, the number of household occupants is steadily shrinking. For example, the average population per household has decreased by more than 100% dropping from 2.75 people in 1980 to 2.57 members in 2022. This emerging dynamic demands a smart energy-efficiency strategy that effectively regulates cooling power between used and unused rooms. The good news is that homeowners can prevent a utility bill blitz by following a few simple tips. With home heating and cooling accounting for more than half (54%) of home energy use, small steps can go a long way.Leverage the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act:The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act is a landmark legislation that encourages Americans to transition towards a new era of energy efficiency and decarbonization. It offers households tax credits for related improvements that save money in the long run, such as highly efficient heating and cooling appliances like heat pumps. Households can claim a tax credit for 30% of the costs of buying and installing a heat pump, up to $2,000 including support for any electric system upgrades needed to make the home heat-pump-ready. ‘ Ease Into Electric: According to Columbia University’s Earth Institute, electric systems are a solution to decarbonize home climate control. Among the most energy-efficient heating and cooling products, electricity-powered ductless mini-split systems, offered by companies including Fujitsu General America, can save as much as 25% on energy bills. Mini-splits use thin copper tubing to pump refrigerant from an outdoor compressor directly into an indoor air-handling unit, where the air is quietly distributed to the interior space. Find Your Efficient Comfort Zone: Prioritize your rooms. If you find yourself using a fraction of your home, consider upgrading to a zoned ducted, or ductless system, allowing you to save energy heating and cooling spaces where you don’t spend much time. You’ll multiply savings by needing less cooling and gaining a more efficient system in the spaces you use. Get “Smart" About Climate Control: When it comes to home temperature control, there are Smart HVAC Systems and Smart Thermostats. Smart HVAC systems have built-in Internet capability and can be controlled directly without additional equipment. Smart Home Thermostats create “smart” systems by enabling remote temperature control via a mobile or Internet-connected device or voice-operated home automation system. Voice Your Preference: Most HVAC manufacturers offer apps that enable systems to be controlled from anywhere using a mobile device. Voice-control capability uses digital assistants, like Amazon Alexa or Google Home, to verbally dictate home temperatures. Easily controlling the temperature allows homeowners to be more comfortable and improve energy savings. Try Low-tech Fixes: Try to use heat-producing appliances – stoves, irons and dryers – at night or early morning. Switch to LED light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs – which consume 90% more power. Seal air leaks around windows, doors, and places where pipes and wires come through walls. Check existing caulking and weather-stripping for gaps or cracks.Targeted, room-by-room climate control systems will allow families to enjoy their extra space without paying to cool empty space this summer. Understand your own personal style: Your scent tells your story. Are you bouncy? Sophisticated? Woodsy? Fragrances can be dark, bright, fruity or aquatic, youthful, sophisticated, masculine or feminine. Think about your favorite fashions: Do you prefer flowered dresses? Torn jeans? Tweed jackets? Colorful silks or white lace? 2. Understand your body chemistry. The same scent will smell different on different people, depending on the acidity in their skin among other things. Try on different types of perfume and wait a couple of hours before making decisions. 3. Understand your clothes. The scent of fresh, clean laundry is an all-time favorite for a reason—so it’s important to choose products that provide long-lasting scents to keep your confidence high even days after washing.Finding the right fragrance for your family, however, can be much more complicated when your laundry products all have clashing scents—but don’t fret, it is possible to find an entire line that keeps its scents consistent. When you’ve got a complete portfolio of products with the same scent, they are made to work together so that aroma you love sticks around without being overbearing. Those who like to keep their laundry day routine simple can start with Ensueño Liquid Laundry Detergent and Ensueño Fabric Softener. With four invigorating aromas—Spring Fresh, Violet Bouquet, Floral and Tropical Blossom—you’re bound to find something that makes your nose happy. When you’re ready to level up your laundry game, you can keep the good smells going with Ensueño Dryer Sheets and, for those tough, abrasive odors some clothes just can’t seem to shake, add some Ensueño Scent Booster Beads. Plus, all of those products come in those same two scents to make your life even easier.Washing machine smelling a bit funky? Be sure you’re cleaning and rinsing it thoroughly according to the guidelines in your owner’s manual—you’d be surprised how quickly washing machine odors can spread to clothes—and don’t forget to schedule regular maintenance as well.Learn MoreFor more tips to ensure better-smelling laundry, visit https://ensueno.us. A Dog Trainer's Top Tips to Support Pets Through Life Stages https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/a-dog-trainers-719885083.htm https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/a-dog-trainers-719885083.htm 04/11/2024 2:35:33 AM by Darris Cooper, CPDT-KA, FFCPMany people found comfort in their animals during the pandemic, whether they already had a pet, newly adopted, or helped care for a family member’s pet. Four years later, puppies adopted during the pandemic are now entering adulthood, while dogs adopted as adults are approaching their senior years. As your dog transitions to new life stages, training is an important part of a well-rounded health and wellness routine that will keep your pup happy and healthy every step of the way: • Enlist the pros: Pet parents may be struggling with unwanted behaviors that their pups have picked up over the past four years, often driven by separation anxiety or social anxiety. As a first step, it’s important to consult your veterinarian to rule out any underlying health issues. Fostering a safe home environment and consulting with a certified dog trainer, and in some cases even a certified separation anxiety expert, are critical to addressing your pet’s needs. • Safety and preparation first: When training your dog on a leash, having a properly fitted collar and harness is important for their comfort and safety. Before taking your pup out and about, I recommend getting them microchipped and registered in the Petco Love Lost database for extra peace of mind. The right tools are essential for training and include things such as training treats, a training clicker and a treat pouch for quick access to your pet’s bite-sized rewards.• Consistency is key: Training is beneficial for your pup through all stages of life and it’s never too late to learn new skills. Petco’s certified dog trainers offer in-person and online classes in one-on-one and group settings. Petco’s trainers are AKC Canine Good Citizen (CHC) Evaluators—they offer a prep course and can administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy and CGC tests. The most effective training sessions are short and consistent and end on a positive note, as dogs will likely retain the last thing they learned. I work with my pups, Zakai and Kalea, throughout the day, as it allows me to reward desired behaviors while providing them with structure and routine. For energetic pups that may have trouble focusing on the lesson, try taking them on a walk or playing with them to work off extra energy. Training sessions are great for both physical and mental stimulation. • Playtime with a purpose: Outside of dedicated training time, puzzle toys and chew toys can keep your pet mentally stimulated and eliminate pent-up energy, which can result in unwanted behaviors. Puppies and senior dogs can benefit from enrichment such as toys that are easier to chew, while senior dogs may prefer to avoid games such as fetch that require large amounts of energy exertion. All dogs are individuals, so pet parents should go at their pace. Scheduling a puppy playdate or going on a fun outing can be another exciting way to keep your dog happy and engaged, though it’s a good idea to make sure any playmates match your pup’s energy levels, play styles, and physical abilities to avoid accidental injuries.• Nutrition as the basis of health: Ensure your dog is in the best shape possible by giving them age-appropriate food. There are special formulas for puppies and senior dogs with added nutrients that cater to their unique nutritional needs, while supplements are another great addition to your pet’s diet. From omega 3 fish oil to hip, joint, skin and coat supplements for senior dogs, there’s always a little something extra that can give your pup a boost. It’s also essential to schedule regular vet check-ups and grooming appointments to ensure pets look and feel their best. For additional resources including guides, checklists and more to help your pets navigate life stage transitions, visit petco.com or Petco pet care centers nationwide.• Darris Cooper is the National Dog Training Manager at Petco. Clear the Air of Indoor Pollutants This Spring https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/clear-the-air-o-719881670.htm https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/clear-the-air-o-719881670.htm 04/10/2024 2:32:54 AM In the Spring, people often focus on the outdoors when it comes to air quality. But indoor air quality (IAQ) is also a crucial aspect of overall health and well-being. Unbeknownst to many, common pollutants can lurk inside homes, affecting health in subtle yet significant ways. Here are some of the most prevalent indoor pollutants and strategies you can use to identify and mitigate their impact on your home’s air quality:Dust: The Silent IntruderDust is a well-known indoor pollutant that includes dead skin cells, pollen, textile fibers, and other debris. Dust can aggravate respiratory conditions such as asthma and allergies. Regular dusting and vacuuming, along with using HEPA filters, can significantly reduce dust levels in the home. PRO TIP: If you find yourself having to dust more often, you may want to consider air duct cleaning. Mold: The Unseen ThreatMold exposure can trigger allergic reactions and respiratory problems. Regularly clean and inspect susceptible areas in your home.PRO TIP: Maintain proper ventilation, control moisture levels, and promptly address any water leaks or damage. Pet Dander: Furry Friends, Hidden HazardsPets are beloved family members, but their dander and fur can exacerbate respiratory issues as they circulate through your home via your HVAC system. To minimize pet-related pollutants, bathe and groom pets regularly and keep them out of bedrooms. PRO TIP: Pet owners should change HVAC filters once a month.Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): The Invisible CulpritsVOCs are chemicals emitted as gases from common household products. To reduce VOC levels in your home, opt for low-VOC or VOC-free products. Proper ventilation is also crucial for minimizing the effects of VOC emissions. PRO TIP: Incorporating indoor plants can help absorb VOCs.Maintaining healthy indoor air quality requires vigilance and proactive measures to identify and mitigate pollutants. For a fresh start, schedule an inspection of your HVAC system. Addressing Sarcopenia with a Healthy Diet https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/addressing-sarc-719868434.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/addressing-sarc-719868434.htm 04/08/2024 3:02:03 PM (NewsUSA) - Age-related loss of muscle mass and strength can significantly impact the quality of life for older adults. However, recent research underscores the role of proper nutrition in preventing and managing this condition.Starting around age 30, the body naturally loses 3 to 5% of muscle mass per decade. This natural process can escalate into a condition known as sarcopenia if muscle loss becomes severe. The effects of sarcopenia include decreased mobility, increased risk of falls, and reduced independence. The effects of sarcopenia are particularly pronounced in women. Women naturally possess less muscle mass than men, and this disparity becomes even more noticeable with age due to menopause. As estrogen levels drop during menopause, the rate of muscle loss in women accelerates, making them more susceptible to sarcopenia.Recent studies have highlighted the significance of specific nutrients in addressing sarcopenia. A healthy diet incorporating higher protein intake and select vitamins and minerals is consistently linked to preventing and managing sarcopenia.Protein is essential for maintaining and building muscle mass. For older adults, higher protein intake from foods such as lean cuts of meat, seafood, and low-fat dairy can help prevent and treat sarcopenia. Whey protein, in particular, has shown promise in improving frailty and sarcopenia.Vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D, selenium, and magnesium have promising effects in preventing muscle loss. Deficiencies of these essential nutrients are common in older adults, especially women, and are associated with muscle weakness and an increased risk of falls. However, boosting one’s intake can help maintain muscle strength and function, reducing the risk of sarcopenia. It’s important to note that the beneficial effects of a healthy diet in addressing sarcopenia are best when coupled with resistance and aerobic exercise."It's very important that all adults, especially women, be aware of sarcopenia and regularly discuss dietary decisions with their healthcare professional or dietician to optimize their health as they age," advises Dr. Dorothy Fink, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Women’s Health. While muscle loss is inevitable in aging, it doesn't have to lead to sarcopenia. By incorporating the proper nutrients into our diets and maintaining an active lifestyle, we can counteract the effects of this condition and continue leading strong, healthy lives. For more information about sarcopenia and how to prevent it, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women's Health's “Stronger than Sarcopenia” campaign offers valuable resources. This initiative provides comprehensive information about sarcopenia, including its symptoms, risk factors, and prevention strategies, emphasizing the importance of strength training and proper nutrition. Subway’s New Wraps Elevate Eating on the Go https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/subways-new--719779702.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/subways-new--719779702.htm 04/05/2024 2:01:25 PM (NewsUSA) - Summer is just around the corner, and with it comes summer fun: school is out, shortened Fridays at the office, outdoor adventures, events, travel, and more. Balancing a busy schedule while satisfying your cravings for convenience can pose a challenge.Subway set out to help and improve eating on the go this summer with a new collection of wraps available at restaurants nationwide. Unlike the snack-sized wraps on menus and store shelves held together by uninspiring and blah tortillas, Subway’s new and hearty wraps feature an all-new, lavash-style flatbread.Inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine, lavash is pillowy soft with an airy texture and more durable than a wheat tortilla. Since it can hold more ingredients and doesn’t fall apart as easily, Subway’s new wraps offer a footlong protein portion in a convenient, six-inch size. The new wraps join the Subway Series – a chef-crafted menu of Subway’s best and most craveable sandwiches – with options perfect for summer days and nights:Homestyle Chicken Salad showcases Subway’s new chicken salad, a twist on a former, cult-classic menu item. It is made fresh using rotisserie-style chicken and mayo, complemented by crispy lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions.Honey Mustard Chicken is full of savory, sweet and tangy flavor thanks to Subway’s Honey Mustard sauce. It is packed with warm rotisserie-style chicken, Monterey cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and onions.Turkey, Bacon & Avocado piles on plenty of turkey, bacon and smashed avocado, alongside Monterey cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and a zesty Peppercorn Ranch sauce. Cali Caprese is meatless but still full of flavor, combining BelGioioso fresh mozzarella and smashed avocado with tomatoes, onions and cucumbers – before it’s finished with Subway’s signature MVP Parmesan Vinaigrette and Roasted Garlic Aioli. “Wraps have become an afterthought on restaurant menus with uninspiring choices and snack-size portions that leave you wanting more,” said Paul Fabre, Senior Vice President of Culinary and Innovation. “That insight kickstarted the process of revamping Subway’s wraps. We spent over a year creating signature recipes with unique ingredients that bring out the best in our new lavash-style flatbread, and also fuel you up without weighing you down.” Subway’s new wraps are the latest in a series of menu refreshes, continuing its ongoing transformation journey that began in 2021. Subway keeps raising the bar with new and improved ingredients, craveable signature sandwiches, salads, sides, snacks and now, wraps and flatbreads. To learn more about Subway’s new wraps visit Subway.com or the Subway App. 04/05/2024 2:01:25 PM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

Stroke & Dementia in Black Men: Tips for Staying Healthy During National Minority Health Month and Beyond https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/stroke-ampamp-de-719777265.htm https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/stroke-ampamp-de-719777265.htm 04/05/2024 2:34:17 AM from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders & StrokeWith nearly 800,000 Americans having a stroke each year, it remains a leading cause of death and long-term disability. Making matters worse for many Black/African American men is that they are at higher risk for high blood pressure and strokes, according to medical experts. For many health conditions, racial and ethnic minority communities are impacted at disproportionate rates. April is National Minority Health Month, a good time to raise awareness about the importance of improving the health of minority communities and reducing health disparities. During this month, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is raising awareness of this important topic and sharing tips to help manage the risk of stroke.Over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure can damage blood vessels and lead to a stroke. High blood pressure can also lead to other damage in the brain that has been associated with dementia. The good news is people can take steps now to get—or keep—their blood pressure numbers in a healthy range to help prevent stroke and dementia later in life. Stroke Prevention Tips for Black Men• Know your blood pressure numbers. Blood pressure is measured using two numbers. The first number, your systolic blood pressure, measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats. The second number, your diastolic blood pressure, measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats. If the measurement reads 120 systolic and 80 diastolic, you would say, “120 over 80,” or write, “120/80 mm Hg.” • Normal Blood Pressure for Most Adults Less than 120/80 mm Hg• High Blood Pressure 130 or higher/80 or higher mm Hg• Stay informed. Discuss high blood pressure with your healthcare provider. Talk to your healthcare provider about your risks and ways to manage your blood pressure to help prevent stroke and dementia. • Take your medications. Your healthcare provider may recommend taking medicine daily to prevent stroke and heart attack, especially if you have high blood pressure. • Quit smoking or using tobacco. Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body, including the heart. Any amount of smoking damages the heart and blood vessels. • Manage your cholesterol levels. Reducing your cholesterol will lower your risk of developing a wide variety of serious health issues, including stroke and heart disease.• Eat healthy foods and exercise. Choose plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Get about 30 minutes of moderate to intense exercise, such as brisk walking or bicycling, every day. Following a healthy eating plan and keeping physically active will significantly lower your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, and other chronic and debilitating health problems.• Manage your diabetes. Having diabetes or pre-diabetes puts you at increased risk or stroke and heart disease. You can lower your risk by keeping your blood glucose (also called blood sugar), blood pressure, and blood cholesterol close to the recommended target numbers provided by your healthcare provider.• Get enough sleep. Getting a good night’s sleep is important for good heart and brain health. Adults should aim for an average of 7 to 9 hours, and babies and kids need more depending on their age. • Start early. Preventing stroke and heart disease is more effective if started in midlife. Studies also find that controlling blood pressure may reduce the risk of dementia. These simple and effective lifestyle changes can reduce your chance of all types of stroke, heart disease, and dementia later in life. Taking charge of your health now can help avoid unnecessary risks and keep blood pressure under control. For more tips and information, visit the NINDS Mind Your Risks® website at mindyourrisks.nih.gov. On the Net:North American Precis Syndicate, Inc.(NAPSI) 04/05/2024 2:34:17 AM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

Family Teacher Conference Topics Beyond Academics https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/family-teacher--719755945.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/family-teacher--719755945.htm 04/02/2024 2:01:37 PM (NewsUSA) - Raising a family is overwhelming enough; add in milestones, routines, challenging behavior and keeping an eye on academic progress, and you’re in for a spin. However, your child’s teacher is often there to help navigate you along the way. Family-teacher conferences are not only a great measure of your child’s academic progress and needs, but it’s also a time to learn more about your child’s personality and tips to set them up for confidence and success beyond the classroom.“No matter how old your child is, it’s important to communicate regularly with teachers and stay plugged into your school community,” says Ariel Bronson, Inclusion Services Advisor for KinderCare. “We hold conferences twice yearly because we value family as important educational collaborators. Research shows that when families and teachers stay connected, children are not only better prepared to enter kindergarten but their social skills and achievement improve, too. We are always thinking about how to set kids up for the most success, and we’re proud that the longer kids stay in our program, the better they do.”Here are two focus topics, beyond academics, to help set you up for a well-rounded family-teacher conference:Social-emotional. Your child craves relationships, and we know they’re important for you, too. According to a study, 58% of parents have seen a difference in their child’s social-emotional skills since enrolling their child in a child care setting. What are my child’s strengths outside of academic performance? What is something kind you have seen my child do?How does my child interact with their peers? Executive functioning. Your child is capable of more than you may think. As adults, we often want to help, but it’s important to take a step back so your children can learn more about their abilities to stay focused on tasks and continue improving and developing healthy skills. How well does my child follow simple instructions? How does my child bounce back from an unpreferred situation? How does my child react to conflict?Don’t be afraid to ask your child’s teacher to elaborate on an answer or explain using an example for you. Be sure to also ask for resources and tips to use at home to help your child expand on these skills.Remember that these conferences are merely a snapshot in time. Use the results as a positive guide to build upon. This meeting does not define your child; it informs you about them. It’s not an all-inclusive list of their abilities or what they’re going to do in the future. You’ve got this, and they do, too! Youth Take Down Tobacco https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/youth-take-down-719741377.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/youth-take-down-719741377.htm 04/01/2024 10:02:14 AM (NewsUSA) - Advocates of all ages across the country join forces on April 1, Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action, to stand up and speak out against the tobacco industry.Demonstrations, rallies and educational events are scheduled to expose how the tobacco industry targets kids with flavored, nicotine-filled products. Youth and adults are calling on federal, state and local officials to end the sale of all flavored tobacco products.“When I finally realized that it wasn’t just cancer that killed my grandma, tobacco did, I started my tobacco prevention journey because I never wanted to see another person lose a loved one to tobacco,” says Neveah, a National Youth Ambassador with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, which sponsors Take Down Tobacco. The tobacco industry has a long history of using flavored products including e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars to appeal to children and other vulnerable groups. These flavors mask the harshness of tobacco products, making it easier for kids to start and ultimately become addicted.“I’m shocked by the number of teens I see vaping who are vaping daily or even continuously. All of them are using minty, fruit flavors,” says Dr. Deepa Camenga, an addiction specialist with the American Academy of Pediatrics. “The products that are on the market have extremely high levels of nicotine and young people’s brains are particularly susceptible.”A report of the U.S. Surgeon General found that, in addition to being highly addictive, nicotine can be harmful to child and adolescent brain development, especially the areas of the brain involved in learning, memory and attention. Although tobacco use among U.S. teens has decreased in recent years, the latest survey shows that 2.8 million middle and high school students still use tobacco products, including 2.1 million users of e-cigarettes.“We’ve made tremendous progress in reducing youth tobacco use, but the tobacco industry is relentless in targeting our kids with flavored e-cigarettes and other flavored products. The FDA and policymakers at every level of government should commit to removing all flavored tobacco products from the marketplace to protect our kids,” says Yolonda C. Richardson, President & CEO of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.“Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action is a time for communities to stand together against Big Tobacco’s efforts to addict another generation of kids,” she adds.Take Down Tobacco is a national program of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids to empower youth to create change in their communities, with the goal of achieving the first tobacco-free generation. Taking Action to Take Down Tobacco https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/taking-action-t-719702803.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/taking-action-t-719702803.htm 03/29/2024 1:01:10 PM (NewsUSA) - Advocates of all ages across the country join forces on April 1, Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action, to stand up and speak out against the tobacco industry.Demonstrations, rallies and educational events are scheduled to expose how the tobacco industry targets kids with flavored, nicotine-filled products. Hispanics and African Americans at Higher Risk for Eye Disease https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/hispanics-and-a-719701472.htm https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/hispanics-and-a-719701472.htm 03/29/2024 2:32:01 AM If you think you’d know if you were losing vision to an eye disease, you might want to think again. The symptoms of glaucoma can start so slowly that you may not notice them. That’s why half the people with glaucoma don’t even know they have it. The good news is that regular eye exams and timely treatment can preserve your sight. But, the only way to find out if you have glaucoma is to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends all healthy adults get an eye exam by age 40, and every year or two after age 65. An ophthalmologist, a physician who specializes in medical and surgical eye care, may recommend more frequent exams based on your family history and other factors that can increase your chance of developing vision-threatening eye conditions. What is Glaucoma? Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that can cause vision loss and blindness by damaging the optic nerve—the nerve that connects your eye to your brain. The most common type of glaucoma happens gradually. Like a clogged drain, the eye does not drain fluid as well as it should. As pressure builds inside the eye, damage to the optic nerve begins. This type of glaucoma is painless and as your brain adapts to this slow vision loss, you may not notice any changes to your eyesight. There’s no cure for glaucoma, but early treatment can often stop the damage and protect your vision. Glaucoma Does Discriminate A recent Harris Poll showed that most Americans are unaware that various ethnic groups may be more vulnerable to the effects of certain eye diseases. This is especially true for the most common form of glaucoma. Glaucoma occurs about six times more often in African Americans. Glaucoma is also six times more likely to result in blindness in African Americans. And it often occurs earlier in life in African Americans, about 10 years earlier than in other ethnic populations.Glaucoma is also more common in Hispanic Americans compared with white Americans. It’s the leading cause of blindness among Hispanics over age 40 years. Unfortunately, some 75 percent of Hispanics with glaucoma are unaware that they have the disease, according to one study. The good news is, getting regular eye exams is an easy and effective way to protect your vision. Getting a comprehensive eye exam before eye disease develops will not only give you peace of mind, but an ophthalmologist can also help you understand your risk factors and recommend a healthy lifestyle to help prevent disease. This could include diet changes or other insights into the latest research on disease prevention. Glaucoma Runs in the FamilyKnowing your family history is another way to protect yourself from vision loss. You’re about three times more likely to develop glaucoma if a family member has it, especially if a parent or a sibling has or had glaucoma. Knowing your family history can help you and your ophthalmologist come up with the best eye screening schedule for you. Can’t Afford an Eye Exam?EyeCare America® Can HelpIndividuals who are at high risk for glaucoma or are over the age of 65 may be eligible for a no-out-of-pocket-cost medical eye exam through the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s EyeCare America® program. 2102: PRETENSE, THE PLAY: New Literary Novel Overlays Tech Angst into a Stunning Future https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/2102-pretense-719667839.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/2102-pretense-719667839.htm 03/25/2024 4:02:16 PM (NewsUSA) - As Artificial Intelligence advances across the globe with inexorable speed, untold predictions of promise and peril amass. All in all, it’s a perfect time for Amazon bestselling author William Jefferson’s new book, 2102: Pretense, the Play, which catapults present-day technology angst into a stunning future-cast of tomorrow. In today’s culture, dominated more and more by distant, discarnate, mediated connectivity, 2102: Pretense, the Play takes readers on a journey where wily artificial intelligence challenges the wisdom of the ages.In this very literary work following Jefferson’s acclaimed Presence, the Play, the new book is set in Onglander, where crimes are tried on stage and the accused must act while donning masks. The better the act, the greater the prospect of acquittal; to refuse, to be real and transparent, brings swift condemnation.2102: Pretense, the Play is equally terrifying and thrilling, but it’s also a heartwarming tale of unswerving determination, resilience, and hope. In an age of brimming technological advancement, 2102 pays homage to those locked out, cast aside, cowering and unseen.Richly spirited, the heroine of the novel could possibly be Joan of Arc, mystically incarnate in 2102. Yet no one really knows for sure.Alias or not, the riveting character goes by the name of Margin, and she travels into the future with Lesser Light, the moon also incarnate, and Shadow the same. Their mission is to seek out the marginalized, those who abide in the shadows and lesser light. They set their sights on 2102, to see what’s happened to the future, now marginalized. The trio, though, needs an official record of what takes place in the future, so they choose a poet named Quillingsworth to be their scribe. Quillingsworth lives in Poet’s Lodge—a current-day setting that’s most enchanting. Quill and his blue-headed parrot, Loreto, join the trio, forming a quartet called the Eventide Ensemble.William Jefferson is on the board of the Marshall McLuhan Initiative (MMI) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is an active member and supporter of the Media Ecology Association, as well as the Institute of General Semantics. The author of several books, Jefferson is the creator of the mystical Isle of Estillyen, beyond of the Storied Sea, introduced in his debut novel, Messages from Estillyen (www.estillyen.com).Jefferson is no stranger to the literary world, with his latest work following Presence, the Play, a novel in which we, as readers, are treated to an allegorical tale woven across multiple levels: Christian theology, media critique, the hero’s journey, poetic reimagining of classic works, and sheer entertainment. All wrapped in an exploration of the concept of presence and its many manifestations, both divine and mundane. The meticulously crafted storyline evokes the imaginative prose of J.R.R. Tolkien, the spirited perception of C. S. Lewis, and the dramatic flair of Dante’s Divine Comedy.Back in 1966, the cover of TIME magazine posed a most provocative question in asking, “Is God Dead?” Today, in light of the explosive use of AI, many might ask, “Is Wisdom Dead?” to which this author replies, “Not yet, but AI may be digging wisdom’s grave.”Writes Jefferson in 2102: Pretense, the Play: “The present world is a theater, the conditions of men are roles: wealth and poverty, ruler and ruled. . . . When this day is cast aside, and that terrible night comes, or rather day, night indeed for sinners, but day for the righteous, when the play is ended, when the masks are removed . . . then the truly rich and the truly poor are revealed.”Learn more at the author’s website, https://estillyen.com, and purchase the book at https://bit.ly/4avK1S7. 03/25/2024 4:02:16 PM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

Why It's Important to Talk About Inheriting Wealth https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/why-its-import-719661513.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/why-its-import-719661513.htm 03/24/2024 11:02:02 AM (NewsUSA) - As a significant portion of the U.S. population ages, a significant transfer of wealth to younger generations is occurring. However, many families have not discussed inheritance plans, and many younger generations may find themselves unprepared, according to new research from Edward Jones, a leading financial services firm.In fact, 35% of Americans surveyed by Edward Jones said they did not plan to discuss transfer of wealth with their families, despite 48% saying that they planned to leave an inheritance.“We know it can be extremely uncomfortable and nearly impossible to separate emotions from the financial decisions necessary when planning inheritance and wealth transfer, particularly as givers navigate family priorities beyond finances,” said Lena Haas, Head of Wealth Management Advice and Solutions at Edward Jones. “However, the wealth transfer is well underway, so it’s more important than ever to connect as a family, with the experienced guidance of a financial professional to help navigate the emotions and educate on the process.”The so-called “great wealth transfer” from the Silent Generation and the Baby Boomers will vary, as people live longer and may delay retirement. Edward Jones’ research revealed four scenarios:Traditional Giving. Older adults transfer wealth through a combination of assets, cash, equities, and real estate.Giving While Living. Older adults support their families in the moment, paying for family experiences, contributing to education or purchasing homes. However, this strategy may force younger generations to return the favor and support parents in retirement.Skipping a Generation. Some older adults skip over their adult children and transfer wealth to grandchildren, often in the form of education or future security, but this can lead to hurt feelings and strained relations with adult children who do not directly benefit from this wealth transfer. No Inheritance. Older adults are living longer, and a combination of more active lifestyles for more years after retirement and/or the expenses of long-term health care means that in some families, little wealth will be left to transfer. The survey, a joint effort between Edward Jones, Morning Consult and NEXT360 Partners, LLC, a global action research and strategy consultancy, was conducted online between December 28-29, 2023, and included a national sample of 2,202 adults.According to the survey, only 25% of individuals who receive an inheritance feel prepared to manage it.Working with an experienced advisor can help, and 57% of those surveyed said that working with a financial professional to guide discussions of wealth transfer and inheritance in advance would facilitate planning and family consensus.Visit www.edwardjones.com/estateplanning for more information about wealth transfer and financial planning. 03/24/2024 11:02:02 AM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

My intention with CEL was to create a college within a college welcoming the underserved population in their native language.”A One-of-a-Kind HVAC ProgramRecently Interplay Learning, the leading provider of immersive skilled trades training, joined forces with LCC to advance the mission of Centro Educativo Latino, its workforce development program, and increase access to the nation’s first North American Technician Excellence (NATE) HVAC certification hybrid program in Spanish. The integration of Interplay’s trades training has elevated the impact of its 200+ hour associate degree program, incorporating online courses and the latest in 3D simulation and VR training technology, presented entirely in Spanish. Along with its catalog of online courses, the VR training provided by Interplay is also available to students through the school’s VR headsets, which they cast onto screens during weekend labs, creating a field-like virtual reality environment that enhances safety, engagement and hands-on learning experiences. This dynamic approach puts theory into practice, addressing language barriers and caters to diverse learning styles. Students get hands-on practice with a wide variety of scenarios and equipment types in a safe, no-fail environment. A Model for Equitable EducationThis approach to learning marks a tide change in technical education, bridging the gap between theory and practice with innovative opportunities once typically reserved for English-led trade programs. Cotto says, "This partnership with Interplay Learning is a significant step forward in providing our students with courses that reinforce NATE and offer the best cutting-edge 3D simulation and VR training in their native language. This comprehensive education ensures they are industry-certified and just as prepared for the demands of rewarding careers and entrepreneurship as their Anglo peers."Centro Educativo Latino extends its commitment beyond linguistic accessibility by providing an affordable and flexible hybrid model of HVAC instruction, blending Interplay’s online coursework and in-person labs. The program addresses the needs of parents and individuals working full-time by offering four hands-on weekend classes, serving approximately 120 students. A sliding-scale pricing model, supported by generous scholarships like Train the East, ensures that education remains financially accessible, reducing student fees to about 3% of comparative state-funded programs. The in-demand program reaches 29 surrounding counties, with its popularity drawing students who travel from out-of-state to participate in the always-full program. Cotto breaks down the costs,"Our HVAC program adds up to about 240 hours of online and in-person instruction and costs about 3% of the cost of similar state-funded programs. We provide all tools and materials at no extra cost, plus access to college, state, and NATE certifications, ensuring comprehensive value for our students.”88% of students willingly drive up to 2.5 hours for this program, underlining the dedication and enthusiasm for this valuable educational opportunity. Additionally, the hybrid instructional model has acted as supplemental support for program instructors, enabling their main HVAC instructor, Henry Perez, to expand his mentorship and impact to more students. This past year, Perez received an award for one of HVAC Excellence’s top 25 Most Influential Instructors for 2024. Program Outcomes Steady Enrollment The popular program has continued to attract students from surrounding counties and out-of-state, with enrollment holding steady at 30 students per class. With four classes per weekend, the program averages about 120 students per semester.Industry-Certified Graduates99% of students graduate from the program, with 100% obtaining their NATE Core Certification and state EPA, along with various Interplay certifications across HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, enhancing their employability and career prospects. Strategic Partnerships and EntrepreneurshipThe program has established strong relationships with local employers who value the skills and certifications of Centro Educativo Latino graduates, leading to 100% of grads going on to work in the trades. Cotto is particularly proud to share the story of two young women who recently completed the program with honors and are now enjoying a better socioeconomic standard of living, boasting newly attained annual salaries starting at $62,000 a year. Cotto explains, “When students show up to local employers with three community college certificates, NATE, the State EPA certification, and a portfolio of about 34 Interplay HVAC certificates, the employer says to us, ‘We need more of these people.’ So we stay well-connected and funnel our students into the workforce when they meet employers' qualifications.”Cotto also weaves in classes in entrepreneurship to prepare students to start their own trade businesses, which 75-80% of students completing the program have gone on to do. “For the longest time, the Latino community never had a place to go for higher education in the skilled trades,” notes Carlos Cotto, director of Centro Educativo Latino and LCC’s associate dean of workforce development and Latino programs. “This partnership with Interplay Learning is a significant step forward in providing our students with comprehensive, cutting-edge 3D simulation and VR training in their native language, ensuring they are industry-certified and well-prepared for the demands of rewarding careers and entrepreneurship.”The collaboration between LCC and Interplay Learning empowers more individuals within the Latino community to access and excel in trades education. Not only is the program opening doors to new economic opportunities, but it's fostering a more skilled and diverse workforce.“Empowering the Latino community through accessible trades education aligns seamlessly with our mission,” said Doug Donovan, CEO and founder of Interplay Learning. “We believe in the transformative power of education and technology, and this collaboration exemplifies our commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workforce.'”About Centro Educativo Latino With a mission to bridge gaps and empower Hispanic individuals, the Centro Educativo Latino at Lenoir Community College is a pivotal resource for the Spanish-speaking community, offering quality education in their native language. The program provides Spanish-language courses in workforce development fields like HVAC, welding, and cosmetology, along with ESL classes. Serving over 2,000 students in the last two years significantly increased Latino enrollment at the college, fostering a sense of community and belonging. This initiative underscores Lenoir Community College’s dedication to inclusivity and creating educational opportunities for diverse student populations.About Interplay LearningAustin-based Interplay Learning is the industry leader in immersive training solutions for the skilled trades. Sound Solutions: How Generative AI is Enhancing Business Communication https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/sound-solutions-719634202.htm Find out More]]> https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/sound-solutions-719634202.htm 03/21/2024 1:00:35 PM (NewsUSA) - More than a third of the country’s workforce is working remotely. Business deals are being made virtually, leadership teams recording their all-staff presentations from the home office or hotel room, and social media staff are creating content on the go. Yet, with this flexibility comes significant business challenges. Executives want to ensure customer satisfaction in online meeting platforms and training modules as well as provide tools to their teams to create clear, distraction-free content. The challenge remains, how do virtual or hybrid teams maintain consistent quality with work-from-home distractions like dogs, kids, and other noise? For Tel-Aviv-based company, insoundz, generative AI is the answer.“Generative AI Audio Enhancement is you only better. It is your voice without any of the distractions,” said Emil Winebrand, Co-Founder and CEO of insoundz. “Where predictive AI is trained to get the business the ‘right answer’ for an input. It is trained to be precise and deterministic; sometimes that's not enough. You may want your AI agent to create, without a clear deterministic input. That’s where Generative AI comes in.”How does it work? As described on indsoundz website, “Our patented solution takes streamed or pre-recorded audio and video, then applies generative AI signal processing to output the same streams with greatly increased studio-like audio sound and proximity effect.”Winebrand’s team works with businesses to correct any sound environment so companies keep the sound they want and remove everything else. With a longstanding history serving companies in the media and entertainment space, insoundz is now working with more B2B and B2C businesses asking for custom solutions. “We have more businesses coming to us because they are interested in improving their communication efficiency and productivity,” said Winebrand. For some, this will look like improved internal meeting presentations developing a deeper connection to remote employees. For others, this has a direct link to sales. Forbes contributor William Arruda said it best: “Despite having years to get good at online meetings and presentations, most salespeople aren’t fully skilled at captivating online.” insoundz believes their generative AI solution is the answer for many sales, executive, and even large-scale SaaS platforms. Is generative AI the solution for all our remote and hybrid business challenges? Probably not, but like many AI applications it does offer time saving solutions to businesses looking for efficiencies without sacrificing quality. 03/21/2024 1:00:35 PM 6320 Other $0 Galveston TX

What You Need To Know About Keratoconus and the iLink Procedure https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/what-you-need-t-719580982.htm https://galveston-tx.campusave.com/around-town/what-you-need-t-719580982.htm 03/21/2024 2:35:43 AM There could be good news if you or someone you care about is ever among the one in 6,000 Americans the National Institutes of Health estimates will be diagnosed with keratoconus (KC). The ProblemThis is a sight-threatening and progressive eye disease that occurs when the cornea thins and weakens over time. It causes the development of a cone-like bulge, which can dramatically and permanently distort vision. An AnswerThere is no cure for keratoconus, but the cornea can be strengthened to slow or halt the progression of the disease with an FDA-approved cross-linking procedure called iLink®. Once diagnosed, there is a lot of information for patients to digest and for eye doctors and their staff to explain in a way that is thorough, educational, and not overwhelming.Helping Patients Understand the ProcedureWith that goal in mind, Glaukos, the company that developed the iLink procedure, launched a 10-part video series called WiseEyes, available on the Glaukos Cornea patient YouTube channel and easily accessed via a convenient QR code. The format of each short video depicts two young “podcast hosts” talking about everything from keratoconus signs and symptoms and the risk of vision deterioration to what to expect before, during, and after the iLink procedure. Episodes also address insurance coverage, financing options, and financial assistance programs for the procedure. The goal of the WiseEyes video series is to help patients get the information they need so they can feel comfortable and confident in making decisions as they relate to their keratoconus journey and treatment with iLink.Glaukos is committed to consumer awareness. Last year, the company launched a massive KC awareness initiative through a unique website called www.livingwithkeratoconus.com that offers details about KC signs and symptoms; an online, downloadable five-question quiz; and a link to “Find a Doc” to make an appointment to be screened. The campaign was supported by videos, social media, collateral materials, and media relations in partnership with eye doctors to encourage people—primarily between the ages of 14 and 35—to be screened for KC. Both campaigns, designed to educate people about KC, are based on the fact the disease is commonly underdiagnosed but can progress rapidly and result in significant vision loss. If left untreated, as many as 1 in 5 patients with progressive KC may eventually need a corneal transplant.More good news is that people are starting to talk about KC and better understand the signs and symptoms that should be discussed with an eye doctor. This has come through Glaukos’ efforts and patients with KC sharing their experiences on social media channels. “Corneal cross-linking is an effective treatment for stabilizing cornea rigidity to preserve vision and spare patients with KC from possibly having to undergo cornea transplantation,” said Dr. Clark Chang, an optometrist at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. “The WiseEyes campaign was created with diagnosed KC patients in mind to provide a clear understanding of what to expect from the FDA-approved treatment and to allay any fears.”Learn MoreFor further facts, visit www.glaukos.com-iLink.com.
